Review

Brian Kennedy - Google Sept 2025

If you want the best Top End experience you can’t go past Geoff and Jane Barrett of Lookabout Tours – our five day tour in August 2025 covered Darwin, the Fogg Dam area, Litchfield NP, Nitmiluk NP, the Katherine Gorge and the magnificent Kakadu NP.

We were a group of two Kiwi couples who had some ideas about what we wanted to see and experience – we quickly developed a rapport with Jane who added so much value resulting in a comprehensive plan which vastly improved on our initial ideas.

As soon as we met Geoff we knew this was going to be a very comfortable experience and as the tour unfolded we developed a deep admiration for his knowledge and experience. He is so at ease with the local culture and so knowledgeable about the birds and other wildlife in the area – at times his ability to predict wildlife behaviours was almost uncanny. We went off road to some magnificent viewing spots and were suitably rewarded.

We saw literally hundreds of bird species, water buffalo, dingoes, dozens of massive saltwater crocodiles as well as the magnificent scenery. Geoff is a skilled photographer and he provided us with an excellent photographic record of our tour as well as marked up maps of our travels. I am also a keen photographer and I returned with so many wonderful images thanks in no small way to Geoff’s sharp eye and his understanding of wildlife behaviours.

As an added bonus we spent several nights in luxury accommodation on Jane and Geoff’s five acre block – it was such a welcoming and relaxing experience to enjoy the way they have developed their property – perfect after a busy day.

We covered considerable distances in our five days with Geoff but the roads are great and he is an excellent driver as well as keeping us informed along the way in his easy relaxed style. Best of all, by the end of the tour we not only felt so well informed we also felt we had established a real bond of friendship. Well done Geoff – you’re the best – we all have so many wonderful memories and highlights.
